d. Fulfillment of the Old Testament prophesies concerning the Messiah
People knowing Jesus realized that these above Messianic prophecies were fulfilled in their days in the person of Jesus Christ. Here is what they found out:
b. i. first messianic prophecy
Gal 4:4 “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law.”
ii. from Isaac’s lineage
Luke 3:23, 34 “Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son… of Isaac…”
iii. from Jacob’s lineage
Luke 3:34 “…son of Jacob…”
iv. from Judah’s and Jesse’s lineage
Luke 3:33, 32 “…son of Judah…, son of Jesse…”
v. from David’s lineage
Luke 3:31 “…son of David…”
Matt 1:1 “A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham…”
Acts 13:22-23 “After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.”
c. i. He would be born in Bethlehem
Matt 2:1 “Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea.”
ii. He would be called Lord
Luke 2:11 “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
Matt 22:43-45 “He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ‘If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”
iii. He would be born from a virgin and would be called Immanuel (meaning “God with us”)
Matt 1:23 “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”-which means, “God with us.”
iv. He would be preceded by a messenger
Matt 3:1-3 “In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'”
v. He would have a ministry of miracles
Matt 9:35 “ Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”
vi. He would teach in parables
Matt 13:34-35 “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.”
vii. He was to enter Jerusalem on a donkey
Luke 19:35-37 “They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen.”
viii. He would be a stumbling stone to the Jews
1 Peter 2:7 “Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.”
ix. He would become the light of the gentiles
Acts 13:47-48 “For this is what the Lord has commanded us: “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'” When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.”
x. He would be betrayed by a friend
Matt 10:4 “Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.” NKJV
ix. He would be betrayed for 30 silver pieces
Matt 26:15 “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.”
xii. The 30 silver pieces would be thrown into God’s house for the potter
Matt 27:5-7 “So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.”
xiii. He would be forsaken by his disciples
Mark 14:50 “Then everyone deserted him and fled.”
xiv. He would be accused by false witnesses
Matt 26:59-60 “The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.”
xv. He would be silent before his accusers
Matt 27:12 “When he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.”
xvi. He would be wounded and bruised
Matt 27:26 “Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.”
xvii. He would be smitten and spit upon
Matt 26:67 “Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him.”
xviii. He would be mocked
Matt 27:29 “then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.”
xix. His hands and feet would be pierced
Luke 23:33 “When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left.”
John 20:25 “So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”
xx. He would be crucified with thieves
Luke 23:33 “When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left.”
xxi. He would intercede for his persecutors
Luke 23:34 4 “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
xxii. He would be rejected by his own people
John 7:5” For even his own brothers did not believe in him.”
John 7:48-49 “Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?”
xxiii. His friends would stand afar off
Luke 23:49 “But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.”
xxiv. People would shake their heads
Matt 27:39 “Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads…”
xxv. He would be stared upon
Luke 23:35 “The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him.”
xxvi. His garments would be divided and lots cast
John 19:23-24 “When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
“Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, “They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.” So this is what the soldiers did.”
xxvii. He would suffer of thirst and vinegar would be given to him to drink
John 19:28-29 “Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.”
xxviii. He would feel forsaken by God
Matt 27:46 “About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”-which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
xxix. He would commit his spirit to God
Luke 23:46 “Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.”
xxx. His bones would not be broken
John 19:33 “But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.”
xxxi. His heart would be broken
John 19:34 “Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.”
xxxii. His side would be pierced

xxxiii. Darkness would envelop the land
Matt 27:45 “From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.”
xxxiv. He would be buried in a rich man’s tomb
Matt 27:57-60 “As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.”
xxxv. He would be resurrected and ascend on high
Acts 2:31-33 “Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.”
Acts 1:9 “After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.”
